DATADVANCE, an EADS joint venture, receives a grant from Skolkovo Foundation

Joint project between EADS and Russian Investors gains acceptance of Scientist Innovations World

Paris, Le Bourget24 June 2011

The Skolkovo Foundation Investment Committee has approved the first grant for DATADVANCE, a joint venture between EADS and Russian investors, spcialised on predictive modelling software. The total amount is € 1.2 million. DATADVANCE LLC. is a joint venture between EADS, the International Research Institute of Advanced Systems (IRIAS) and the Institute for Information Transmission Problems (IITP). Both organisations are part of the Russian Academy of Sciences. DATADVANCE is specialised in the development of software for predictive modeling and multi-disciplinary optimization. The company was created to develop and commercialise MACROS software, the main product developed in the partnership between EADS and its Russian Partners.

The Russian Innovation Centre Skolkovo has implemented a special programme of financial support for its residents high-tech companies located at the technology business hub in the Moscow region. The money is earmarked for R&D purposes according to the budget approved by the Skolkovo Foundation. If the tasks defined for the first tranche are successfully executed, the companies can apply for a second grant.

The approval of the first tranche for DATADVANCE was preceded by an evaluation examining the strength and economic viability of the business from scientific and commercial point of view. The received grant will drive the evolution of MACROS technology, which has been initially developed for the aerospace industry, but can be used in other areas, including the automotive, shipbuilding, financial services and biotechnology sectors.

MACROS is a software environment for predictive modelling, simulation based on data handling and multidisciplinary optimisation, which helps to reduce design time and cost of complex engineering products. MACROS is based on the synergy of advanced mathematical methods for intelligent data analysis and advanced optimisation algorithms including surrogate-assisted multi-objective optimisation. MACROS has been developed by Russian scientists with the support of EADS. The joint venture DATADVANCE was created in 2010 after six years of successful cooperation between Russian developers and EADS experts, who performed assessments of the software and carried out the final validation, acceptance and implementation of MACROS inside the EADS Group.

The establishing of the new company DATADVANCE is aimed at the development of new software products based on MACROS technology for applications outside of the aerospace industry. Skolkovo Innovation Centre is offering attractive working conditions for this goal. The location unites leading researchers, engineers, designers, software programmers, managers and financial specialists and is aimed at producing new technology able to compete on the global market. Since December 2010, DATADVANCE is a resident of Skolkovo Innovation Centre.
