EADS and Government of Canada collaborate on Aerospace Research

Farnborough10 July 2012

European aerospace and defence group EADS and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) have renewed their collaboration in Research & Technology (R&T). This agreement follows an existing 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2008 covering joint R&T activities for aerospace applications within Canada.

John R. McDougall, President of NRC and Jean Botti, Chief Technical Officer of EADS signed the document, which prolongs the cooperation for another 5-year term on Tuesday at the Farnborough Air Show. Building on the strong foundation established between the two organizations in the field of aeronautics, the new MoU contains further areas of mutual interest such as space, defence and security, technology information, and new environment technologies. Additional EADS affiliated companies are also included.

EADS and NRC will leverage expertise and resources in order to engage Canadian suppliers to develop and optimize technologies of potential interest to EADS. Under the umbrella of this relationship, Airbus, Eurocopter and EADS Innovation Works have signed 10-year framework agreements with NRC to facilitate the development of R&T activities covering subjects that range from manufacturing technologies to flight tests for environmental investigations. Related to this initiative, EADS decided in 2008 to open an office at NRC’s aerospace manufacturing research facility in Montreal.
